Burt Castle is located about 10 miles west of Londonderry and was built in the latter 1500's. It was owned by Cahair O'Doherty who rebelled against the English government in 1608 and was killed a few months later. Sir Arthur Chichester was able to obtain all those lands which essentially was the entire Inishowen peninsula in Co Donegal. This became the Chichester Estate of approximately 170,000 acres. The earliest record we have found of an adult Neely in Ulster was a William Neely living close to there on the Chichester Estate in the 1630 Co Donegal muster roll.
Therefore, I have adopted Burt Castle as the symbol for the Neely Clan
